Born in Seville, Alvaro Garrido learnt music on his own, being a collector of musical instruments besides a passionate sound researcher. He has a wide repertoire that includes early music, folk, ethnic and new musics. Specialized in hand percussion, he studied at The Berkley School of Music (Boston, USA) and attended courses with teachers like Glen Velez, John Bergamo, Pedro Estevan, Rowan Store y Keshab Kanti Chowdhury. Alvaro has toured in Germany, Austria, Checoslovaquia, USA, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Russia and Portugal and has broadcast for Spanish TV channels (TVE, TV2, TV3, Canal Sur) and radio (RNE). He is a member of Arte Factvm, Orphenica Lyra, Accademia del Piacere, More Hispano, Tempus, Caravasar and L´ham de foc, among others. He also works with fusion musicians such as Gualberto and David Peña Dorantes. He was selected by the Andalusian Regional Government to develop the didactic program Solistas en las Aulas.
Alvaro is currently leading Zanfoñamóvil, a company dedicated to promoting music and culture by organizing concerts, music festivals, exhibitions and lectures. |
